Giving people an opportunity to give back

What do you get when you mix personal fitness goals with passion for a cause? In the case of our inspiring community fundraisers, Ben and Magnus, the result is signing up for the pinnacle of endurance events, the Ironman Triathlon in Busselton WA to raise much needed funds for Médecins Sans Frontières.

The Covid-19 pandemic has taught us some challenging lessons, but one lesson has been the importance of truly cherishing our health. Every day, we have been reminded how lucky we are that our family, friends and loved ones are in good health, in the midst of this global pandemic. This was one of the reasons that Ben and Magnus decided to set up their epic fundraiser.

Both Ben and Magnus have strong ties to the medical community through their families and they both resonated with MSF’s values and mission. They selected the ironman because they wanted to be able to capture the attention of their networks by participating in an event that had ‘shock value’ (it involves a 3.8km ocean swim, 180km bike ride and 42.2km run, usually taking around 11-13 hours to complete) as well as being able to smash their own fitness goals.

When asked about their tips on how to fundraise successfully, this is what they had to say:

“The key for us has been not just asking for money, but sharing our story first. It all starts with the why. If family and friends can connect to why you’re doing it, they will be much more likely to want to support you. “

The team at MSF has been so inspired by the dedication and commitment Ben and Magnus continue to show as they stick to their training schedules and fundraising efforts, and we would like to wish them all the best ahead of the December event date.
