As a surgeon working for Medecins Sans Frontieres you may
be part of an emergency team responding to an outbreak of hostilities
somewhere the world. Alternatively you may work as part of a longer-term
surgical program, providing care to communities deprived of a functioning
health care system.
No matter where you are working, be prepared for the fact that the level
of equipment and treatment facilities available ‘back home’
will not be available – there may not even be a basic X-ray machine.
We may ask you to leave at very short notice - if an emergency arises
that requires your skills. However we do take into account that surgeons
face particular difficulties leaving their practices for long periods
of time, consequently Médecins Sans Frontières offers surgeons
shorter than usual missions.
