Mohamad Kasseem, also known as Dr Mo, is a Lebanese gynaecologist working in the Médecins Sans Frontières maternity clinic in Beirut. He loves his job. Working for Médecins Sans Frontières has been his big dream.
Now he is the only one in his family who has a steady income. The explosion in the port of Beirut in August 2020 destroyed his home. Fortunately, no one in his family was injured. Still, he is concerned about their safety.
He is also very concerned about current events in the health sector in Lebanon. Salaries for health workers have dropped dramatically and many healthcare workers are trying to leave the country to find work elsewhere. Since the Lebanese medical education is very highly regarded internationally, many are welcomed with open arms. Mohamad doesn't even want to think about what that would mean for patients in Lebanon.
His work continues to give him strength. The strength of the patients while giving birth under difficult conditions and the joy when a child is born motivate him every day anew.
Thank you for helping people like Mohamad continue to provide relief during times of crisis.
