MSF crisis updates from Afghanistan and Haiti

As you have likely heard or seen, the Afghanistan conflict has dramatically shifted as the Taliban has taken control every provincial capital in the country, while Haiti in the midst of ongoing unrest has been shaken by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake and a tropical storm.

The humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan is very serious. People lack the basic necessities, medicines, operating rooms, and the lack of security prevents them accessing care. We at Médecins Sans Frontières are continuing to carry out medical activities in all five of our projects in Herat, Kandahar, Khost, Kunduz and Lashkar Gah.

Our teams are working 24 hours a day. In one day, in the emergency room of Boost Hospital in Lashkar Gah, we cared for 600 people and assisted 45 women in giving birth to their children.

Médecins Sans Frontières Australia and Médecins Sans Frontières New Zealand Executive Director Jennifer Tierney took a moment to share a quick update on what we're hearing from our colleagues in Afghanistan.

We are in Afghanistan, in Haiti and wherever there is a need for medical care. We have never stopped, we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and timely medical care, where it is most needed, with you by our side. Together we can make a huge impact on the lives of those suffering. I would be delighted if you would support us today.
