Online Supporter Briefing – 12 August 2020

As a valued supporter of Médecins Sans Frontières Australia, we would like to invite you to join us for our very first online Supporter Briefing at 1pm to 2pm AEST on Wednesday, 12 August 2020.   

On the day, you will be joined by our Executive Director, Jennifer Tierney, our Head of Field Human Resources, Robin Sands and our very special guest, Dr Saschveen Singh, a Tropical Infectious Diseases Advisor for Médecins Sans Frontières as well as our medical advisor of COVID-19.   

We look forward to the opportunity to thank you personally for your commitment to our work as well as provide you with some insights on the situation across the world and how Médecins Sans Frontières is responding.


Our Speakers

Dr Saschveen Singh

General Practitioner and Emergency Medical Officer, Dr Singh has a long history of interest in neglected and emerging tropical diseases, and global public health. Dr Singh first spent time as a student in infectious diseases and tropical public health in Senegal, India, Bangladesh and Peru, and then as a volunteer doctor in a paediatric hospital in Laos.

Dr Singh’s experience with Médecins Sans Frontières started in 2017, working in a large refugee camp in Western Tanzania. She has since completed several assignments in the Democratic Republic of Congo; working with Ebola in North Kivu in 2018 and 2019, and then on a measles outbreak investigation with an Emergency Team in 2019.

Since September 2019, Dr Singh has been working with the Sydney and Paris Médecins Sans Frontières offices as the Tropical Infectious Disease Advisor on various infectious disease and neglected tropical disease portfolios. Since January 2020, Dr Singh has also been working as part of Médecins Sans Frontières COVID-19 clinical team.

Jennifer Tierney

Jennifer’s career in the international development and humanitarian sector spans twenty years and multiple geographies. She has MSF field experience that has taken her to South Sudan and Lebanon, very well complemented by her time in the MSF-USA office as Marketing Director from 2005-09 as well as Fundraising Director from 2009-13. Jennifer additionally has board level experience with Alima USA and Rippling, as well as being a strategic consultant to organisations such as Amnesty International, Concern Worldwide and the Clinton Foundation. Most recently she has worked with UNICEF Australia as their Director of Fundraising and Communications. 

Robin Sands

An Electronic and Communications Engineer, Robin joined Médecins Sans Frontières in 2005 as a logistician. His experience ranges from the refugee camps of Liberia and managing the projects in Darfur, to coordinating two million tonnes of food supplies in Niger for the largest malnutrition program at the time. He also spent two years in the Médecins Sans Frontières Paris office working in different Human Resources roles, where he was responsible for countries including Sudan (North, South, Darfur), Kenya, Georgia, Columbia, Palestine, Ivory Coast, Central African Republic and Ethiopia.

Robin is now the Head of Field Human Resources for Médecins Sans Frontières Australia and New Zealand.
