‘These children don’t know anything different’: Meet the Geraldton woman running a hospital in war-torn Yemen.

72-year-old Eric Boon from Swanbourne, WA, shares his experience working with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) with the POST.

Lebanon is battling its first outbreak of cholera in three decades. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) provides hygiene kits, vaccinations, oral rehydration points, in the Bekaa valley, north and northeast of the country areas with the highest number of confirmed cases in addition to medical care in two cholera treatment centers in Bekaa Valley.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a skin infection caused by a parasite transmitted by the bite of a phlebotomine sandfly. 

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) treats patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis at seven specialist facilities in the cities of Quetta, Kuchlak in Balochistan and Peshawar and Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In Pakistan, the neglected tropical disease cutaneous leishmaniasis is considered a public health burden. 

In collaboration with health authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is providing medical care for cutaneous leishmaniasis.

After Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) condemned the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA)’s decision in a press release on 29 December 2022, some of the organisation’s female employees voiced their fears for the future and their frustration.

In the three days since an attack on a residential building in central Dnipro killed at least 40 people, teams from international medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) have been providing survivors with medical care, psychological first aid and essential relief items. 

Decades of instability and armed violence in Central African Republic (CAR) have contributed to essential medical care being out of reach for many pregnant women and newborn babies. Overshadowed by the security situation in the country, tackling this everyday emergency is a priority for MSF teams.  

Since August, MSF has been running a rehabilitation project for war-wounded patients in the Vinnytsia region, Ukraine. 

We support Trauma and Rehabilitation wards in Ukrainian hospitals in Kyiv and Vinnytsia by providing staff training and physiotherapy sessions for trauma war-wounded patients. 

As one of the largest non-governmental providers of TB treatment worldwide, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) carried out the TB PRACTECAL trial to find better treatment options.

The WHO recognised six-month treatment is safer and more effective at treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) than the current options for people with drug-resistant TB (DR-TB).
