Doctors Without Borders - not without you.

On 24 June, two powerful earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, less than one minute apart, struck Venezuela, devastating large areas of the capital Caracas, and especially the coastal city of La Guaira.

More than 1,700 people have died, and thousands more are injured and displaced. These numbers are expected to grow significantly as tens of thousands of people remain unaccounted for.

Entire communities have been left devastated, with thousands of mostly residential buildings, and eight hospitals, seriously damaged or entirely destroyed.

As the only operational international non-governmental organisation present during the first hours following the disaster, MSF was able to fill critical supply gaps when hospitals had exhausted their emergency stocks.

To date, our teams have donated medical kits with essential supplies to eight hospitals, providing urgently needed essential items to support at least 4,000 survivors. These included medicines, antibiotics, analgesics, and a lot of dressing material to treat the wounded.

MSF has also set up its first mobile clinic and commenced activities in Naiguatá, in La Guaira, where there are both operational gaps and significant humanitarian needs.

The mobile clinic consists of a team of 12 people including a medical doctor, nurses, psychologist, health promoter, and an environmental health specialist. The team is responding to both primary and mental healthcare needs, and looking into how we can support local water and sanitation for displaced and underserved communities.

As the emergency response phase comes to an end, MSF continues to work with local health authorities to assess the ongoing needs and will identify where we can provide further help where it is most urgently required.

MSF will update information about our response as the true scale of this disaster is revealed in the coming weeks.

As we are still assessing the scope of our response, we are not currently accepting donations specifically for Venezuela. But please consider supporting our Emergency Fund today so that we can continue to provide medical care to so many people in the more than 70 countries where we work who need our help.
