As a resident of [Electorate], I am writing to urge you to take a stand for policies that prioritise humanity and compassion in the upcoming federal election.  

Australians pride themselves on fairness, respect, tolerance, and on lending a hand in times of crisis. Yet today, as conflicts escalate, climate change drives displacement, and humanitarian needs reach unprecedented levels, Australia risks turning its back on these values.  

I am joining Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF)’s Vote for Humanity campaign and asking you to commit to the following key priorities:  

1. A Fair and Accountable Humanitarian Foreign Policy  
   Investing in humanitarian aid not only alleviates suffering but also fosters global stability, reducing the likelihood of crises that impact Australia. Australia is one of the world’s largest economies, yet our foreign aid contribution stands at just 0.68% of the federal budget. A commitment to increasing the aid budget to at least 1% would reflect Australia’s fair share and leadership in addressing global needs.  
    
2. A Compassionate and Effective Refugee Policy  
   Current offshore detention policies cost Australian taxpayers billions while causing immense harm to vulnerable people. We need a shift towards policies that increase refugee intake and establish safe, legal pathways for asylum seekers. We also call for an end to offshore processing: by investing in humane, long-term solutions, we can uphold Australia’s international obligations and values.  
    
3. Decisive Action on Climate Change  
   The health impacts of climate change are undeniable—rising temperatures, food insecurity, and extreme weather events are already increasing humanitarian crises worldwide. Australia must accelerate its transition to renewable energy, phasing out fossil fuels by 2030, and commit to increasing humanitarian support for communities most affected by climate-related disasters.  

As a voter in your community, I care deeply about these issues, along with thousands of others like me. This upcoming election provides an opportunity to ensure our nation is on the right side of history, prioritising humanitarian action over short-term political gains.
