She was due to leave Sudan, after having been on assignment for 12 months, the day the conflict escalated, forcing her and her colleagues into a bunker. Following the powerful earthquakes that hit the south of Türkiye (formally Turkey) and northwest Syria on 6 February, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has mobilised its team along with local partners to respond to the increasing needs in the area.

Arunn Jegan is the advocacy coordinator at Médecins Sans Frontières Australia and has previously worked as a head of mission and emergency coordinator.
