The international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) welcomed leaders’ signing of a political declaration on tuberculosis (TB) during the United Nations High-Level Meeting (HLM) on TB. 

As one of the largest non-governmental providers of TB treatment worldwide, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) carried out the TB PRACTECAL trial to find better treatment options.

The WHO recognised six-month treatment is safer and more effective at treating multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) than the current options for people with drug-resistant TB (DR-TB).

In 2022, MSF teams around the world continued to respond to crises, old and new. While COVID-19 was not the emergency it was in previous years, new challenges arose. The war in Ukraine escalated in February; the political, humanitarian and economic crises in Haiti deteriorated severely; cholera emerged on an exceptional scale in several countries. 

Papua New Guinea (PNG) has one of the highest prevalence rates of tuberculosis in the world, with 30,000 new cases reported every year. The high prevalence is such that the PNG government has declared a state of emergency in several provinces. 

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is working with patients in PNG to strengthen the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of one of the country’s leading causes of death.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious global public health concern and one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. Rates of TB in Libya are on the rise, linked to an apparent lack of knowledge and awareness in the country about this health issue, which often leads to late detection and treatment.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF / Doctors Without Borders) has scaled-up its emergency response amid a surging second wave of COVID-19 in Mumbai in Maharashtra state. India recently broke a global record when it recorded more than 300,000 new infections in a single day, with a whopping 115,736 new cases reported in Maharashtra state on a single day on 16 April.
