Louise Timbs is a nurse from Queensland who has completed nine assignments with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) since 2014. Louise has recently returned for the second time from Gaza, Palestine, where she worked as nursing activity manager for several MSF teams.

From October 2023 to January 2025, over 1.9 million Palestinians were displaced within Gaza. After the ceasefire in January 2025, more than half a million people returned to their homes in the north of the enclave. In the city of Beit Lahia, Hanan, Anwar, Nour, Sahar and Deema live together in the rubble of their former home. 

An insufficient amount of aid is being allowed into the Strip, merely a smokescreen to pretend the siege is over. Meanwhile, at least 20 medical facilities in Gaza have been damaged, or forced partially or completely out of service in the past week by advancing Israeli ground operations, intensified airstrikes, and widespread evacuation orders. 

We continue to urge the Australian government to pursue their words with strong diplomatic action that holds the Israeli government to account.

Making aid conditional on forced displacement and vetting of the population is another tool in the ongoing campaign of ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population. MSF firmly rejects and condemns any plan that further reduces availability of aid and subjugates it to Israeli military occupation objectives.
